Ladies of color in none divine-9 sororities, you are not as invisible as you think you are. There isn't any honor in hiding behind your barbie doll perfect sorors. When you are in a rare position like being an Alpha Phi, you have a rare opportunity to live in a unique space in the matrix. Be sure to download the free Hair Journal below; Growth and Glory







This means that you can embrace your blackness from a personal level and still remain loyal to your house. Hair is the substratum of an African American woman's identity. You can fully embrace the ethnicity of your hair and still be proud to be Greek.

BE TRIBAL


To translate all of this to relevancy, understand that black hair is a lifelong project. It is very high maintenance in its texture and that produces a social problem. Some of you may just be hiding from the world and just resolved to hate yourself. Although that's understandable, that's not acceptable in a sorority that has a high-standard. I know you make sure you get the grades, but...


Even if your shampoo costs $65, what's going to work on any black hair is, black hair products. This means taking a trip to Walmart or Sally's in the hood, and especially the Asian-owned black hair stores.



This is when you want to be tribal. When you go to the hood for the wonderful selection of black hair care products, wear your Greek Gear. This is the perfect reason to put on that tri-delt T-shirt or hoodie. For your sorors, wearing Greek Gear too much is absolutely mortifying, however for a black delta-gamma, it's a sign of respect. It's a sign of respect both ways. When you start your high-maintenance hair journey, your sorors don't want to lose you to another place in the matrix as you read online black hair forums, and so on. If you have to do a big chop, wear your Greek Gear, let your sorors know that your "poppin curls and soft afro isn't going to change you. Secondly, you will get respect in the streets (needed by everybody)


Of course some women in the hood have beautiful hairstyles, black beauty supply stores are everywhere.


WHAT DOES YOUR SORORITY WANT?


Black female intellectuals, will go to a coffee shop and discuss blackness (especially hair) perpendicular to white standards. However, when you join a none divine -9 you have put yourself in that kind of position although you don't know how to get there. In order to have a beautiful head of hair, you need a buffet of black hair products including edge control gel, neutralizing shampoo and old fashioned grease and pressing oil. Below is a working list of THE BASICS: if you don't have all of these items you are not taking proper care of you hair.

The videos below answers the question, "What does your sorority want?" Also, there are none-divine 9 sororities that are adopting a hair care brand for Afro-Textured hair to get black women started. Every item in your hair care buffet may not be the house brand, but if you don't know where to begin, its a good place to start. Olaplex Bonding Oil Theory


These days, people do whatever they want with the products on the market. And true, it's whatever works for you. In the past, however, people had a more professional approach even when they did their hair on their own.


When I heard of the Olaplex bonding oil and how much it cost, I came up with this theory;


If you use the Olaplex bonding oil as an "old fashioned" hot oil treatment, you will get mind boggling results especially on relaxed hair and hair that's straightened with heat.



An old fashioned hot oil treatment is done before shampooing.

  1. Dampen your hair. If you feel your hair is dirty, rinse as much product out with clear water (you will be okay) Ring out excess and add a moderate amount of oil to hair from roots to ends.

  2. Use a heated conditioning cap on hair for 10-15 minutes.

  3. Rinse out. Shampoo, condition and style hair as usual.

(NOTE: because this is such a intense oil, it's not necessary to use it every wash cycle. Choose a strategic time such as the first washing after a relaxer)
