During the slave trade, beauty rituals were left behind in the motherland. Still today, in post-slavery black America, women are having difficulty celebrating beauty. The spiritual side of beauty has become a perversion in our still feminist driven society. The fight for gender equality is a dual battle. The beauty of a woman is downgraded in societies that see women as second class citizens. The disconnect from African beauty rituals had a dehumanizing effect on the psyche of the black woman.

Neo-Soul recording artist Alicia Keys understands that beauty is also spiritual. For her, a beauty routine is more than age prevention, its much needed soul care. She has a line of beauty products Keys Soulcare. Her website offers free positive energy with powerful affirmations on every page. She speaks from the heart in this infomercial/tutorial.

African black soap lives up to its name. Along with shea butter, black soap is one of the primary beauty products of the continent. These two products are celebrated for their medicinal qualities, but not as the secret ingredients to a woman's beauty. The lather and what black soap does for the skin is luxuriant. Some of the benefits are:

  • Removes bacteria. ...

  • Deep cleans your skin. ...

  • Exfoliates to help improve skin texture and tone. ...

  • Reduces or prevents razor burn. ...

  • Helps with mild skin rashes. ...

  • Treats fungus. ...

  • Moisturizes without stripping essential oils. ...

  • May reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

Using African black soap is black consciousness. It's politically correct and the results are satisfying. I personally find black soap to be very moisturizing. My skin wasn't quite as tight and dry after use. Using black soap should be associated with having pretty skin. Continued use of it will make your skin smoother and more attractive.

Any black soap you can get your hands on will work. But if you are looking for a time tested brand, Nubian Heritage is standard in quality and reputation. This black-owned company offers an entire line of bath and body, skincare and deodorants. Give your skin the spa treatment with the balancing and clarifying mud mask. $16.99
