How to do Cottagecore

Cattagecore is this new postmodern aesthetic that reaches back to the past. There is a psychology behind why American woman of all races are embracing cottagecore.....that I can't put my finger on. However, the inspiration for this website is the Gullah culture that was beautifully cinematized in the movie, "Daughters of the Dust." I do believe that in the spirit of cottagecore, black women have reached to that island. A perfect example is some of the imagery of Beyonce's video like this still from her song "Formation."

There are people out here in the world, who want to force cottagecore on everybody, especially when it comes to fashion. If you can't go all the way Daughters of the Dust, as always, reach for the colors of your sorority house. The Greek clothes turns cottagecore into a preppy, deconstructed version of what it's supposed to be.

One major cottagecore look is a cardigan layered over a smocked dress.

Thankfully, this trend is a good reason to pull out your sorority cardigans and layer them over a coordinating smocked dress.

The second look involves a sweater and midi skirt.

Pair a coordinating midi skirt with a Greek sweatshirt for an edgier look. And thank me later.
